# Municipality Day

“Municipality Day” is not a saint’s feast or a single national date: it is the civic label some town halls use for their local holiday on the labour calendar — each place picks the day that best fits its institutional memory or festival programme.

Comparison with Spain and with the aggregate of the 3 regions where it is observed. All five comparisons are population-weighted and use only the 2025 Annual Census. A positive sign means the covered population has a higher value than the benchmark.

| Demographic profile | Covered population | Compared with Spain | Compared with its 3 regions |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Aged 0–14 | 13.1% | +0.2 pp | +0.3 pp |
| Aged 65+ | 18.5% | -2.2 pp | -2 pp |
| Foreign citizenship | 16.4% | +2.4 pp | +5.6 pp |
| Born outside Spain | 18.3% | -0.9 pp | +3.7 pp |
| Weighted mean age | 43.4 years | -1.1 years | -1.2 years |

The largest difference from Spain is in “Foreign citizenship”: +2.4 pp.

Sex comes from the 2025 municipal register; all other metrics come from the 2025 Annual Census. Each percentage uses the total from its own statistical operation. [INE municipal tables 68535 and 68541](<https://www.ine.es/dynt3/inebase/index.htm?capsel=11532&padre=11555>).

## What is Municipality Day

Unlike patronal feasts (San Isidro, Our Lady of the Rosary, and so on), this heading does not point to a shared sanctoral. It often marks the town’s foundation, an administrative anniversary, the main fair, or simply the day the council sets as the local holiday for that year.

Dates therefore diverge: the 2026 calendar shows different days depending on the municipality (for example Balanegra, El Palmar de Troya, Fuencaliente de la Palma or Partido de la Sierra en Tobalina). There is no Spain-wide “Municipality Day”.

For anyone checking the labour calendar, the label is useful precisely because it is honest: it flags a local holiday without inventing a common religious title. Each municipal page links the official bulletin where the concrete date is published.

## Dates of Municipality Day

In 2026 it falls on Tuesday 2 June in most municipalities. 3 move it to another date (when it lands on a weekend or by local agreement).

| Year | Main date | Municipalities |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 2024 | Monday, 18 March | 2 |
| 2025 | Monday, 1 September | 1 |
| 2026 | Tuesday, 2 June | 4 |
