Updates
A free API for everyone
The entire festivos.io API is free to use, with no sign-up. It covers municipality holidays, working-day and long-weekend calculations, and multiple-date lookups for apps, automations and assistants.
Clearer data and documentation
Sources and Methodology now explain where each figure comes from and clearly distinguish the Municipal Register, Annual Census and provisional population estimate. Web documentation and integration guides have been revised so finding data, checking its origin and getting started is simpler.
Search and responsive header
Global search now finds municipalities, provinces and holidays, with native desktop click navigation restored. On mobile it shares the first header row with the brand and menu, while results span the full header width. Theme follows the system until Light or Dark is explicitly saved, without an ambiguous third icon.
Observatory and comparable analytics
A new Holiday Score, municipal ranking, regional distributions, population-weighted working days and impact for all 365/366 dates. The 2024–2026 panel uses one fixed municipal cohort and fixed weights; incomplete calendars remain visible but are excluded from rankings.
Municipal Register, Annual Census and ECP kept separate
Published layers now include the 2024–2025 municipal register with men and women, the 2021–2025 Annual Population Census with age, sex, citizenship, birthplace and mean age, and the provisional 1-Jul-2026 ECP. Each operation keeps its own total and denominator; ECP is not presented as a 2026 municipal register.
Demographic profiles and population impact
Holiday pages compare their covered population with Spain and their region using the same Census. Coverage adds population weighting; Holidays today adds national share, complement and impact band, always naming the municipal-register year used.
Fiesta texts and Catalan pages
Curated prose («what it is, origin and history») for regional and national fiestas, and new Catalan fiesta pages (/ca/festa) for 29 holidays, cross-linked with their Spanish and English versions.
Castilla-La Mancha: 1,123 sourced local names
The real name of the local holidays across the five provinces, each with its source (BOE, provincial gazettes, county councils and town halls). Unnamed dates in ES-CM drop from 94.5% to 32.4%. nombres-locales.json grows to 1,817 municipalities and 3,879 names; +688 named municipalities in 2026 (52.4%).
Regional holidays in co-official languages
The BOE table only publishes the calendar in Spanish. Regional holidays now carry the official name given by the region that declares them: San Xoán (24 June), which in 2026 shifts from a local holiday declared council by council to a region-wide holiday across Galicia. Holiday canonicalisation reads co-official names too.
Per-year legal sources + local names with an official source
Every local holiday now cites the specific official document for its year (regional gazette order, or open data) across all 17 regions. Curated names with a verified official source, checked one by one: nombres-locales.json grows to 1,008 municipalities (+1,229 names). +188 named municipalities in 2026 (42.2%).
Aragón and Castilla-La Mancha 2026 ingested
Local holidays for ES-AR (271 municipalities) and ES-CM (~38 named) for 2026, empty until then. +821 named municipalities.
Curated local names
A verifiable registry of proper names (nombres-locales.json) that fills generic labels without overriding official ones: 833 municipalities.
Tax (AEAT) and school calendars 2026
Taxpayer deadlines by profile (individual/self-employed/company) and the school calendar of all 19 regions for 2026-2027.
Literal attribution per source
Every level and region with its literal citation (v1/ref/attribution.json), a condition of Law 37/2007 and CC BY 4.0.
